We all need a little inspiration from
time to time!
A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction ~

Ambition over anxiety ~ Cece Lyra

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. ~ Calvin Coolidge

Writing is like driving with the headlights on at night. You can only see a little ways in front of you. But you can make the whole journey that way. ~ Anne Lamott

When your life gets bigger and juicier and more expansive, it might feel less safe. But its because we grew up feeling safe in small containers and when we decide to see what is out there, its not quite as 'safe.' But there's so much waiting for us ~ Anne Lamott

from Amber Petty's newsletter:
On (9/14), Jeff Hiller won an Emmy award for Somebody, Somewhere.
That may not mean much to you.
But Jeff's been working as a professional actor for the past 25 years and Somebody, Somewhere was his first significant role.
Not for lack of talent. I saw Jeff be the funniest person on stage for years at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Other people got more famous and though Jeff worked, he never got what he deserved.
Yet, he kept going. Got a part that was perfect for him. Though the show was already cancelled and big name people like Colman Domingo and Harrison Ford were clear picks, Jeff got a nomination too!
All the media stories were "nomination came out of nowhere" or "least likely Emmy nominee." But I (and anyone who's ever worked with Jeff) knew it was the most deserved nominee, perhaps in the history of the Awards ceremony.
Come the day of the awards, Jeff spoke on the red carpet about being perfectly happy to lose to Harrison Ford. But he didn't. HE WON!
It's not often you hear happy Hollywood stories. But this is a real won.
Jeff is a delight of a human who consistently did good work, kept going, and tried new things. Now, he has multiple touring one person shows on his belt, an amazing memoir, and an Emmy award to add to his shelf.
It's a good reminder that good things do happen. To good people, no less!

I'm a big fan of podcasts. Here are some of my favorite inspirational conversations --

This conversation with author Jean Kwok is the definition of resilience. Get your tissues!

I've admired Kate Winslet since I saw her in Titanic when I was 12 years old. While this conversation doesn't pertain specifically to writing, it is SO good to hear a stunning, successful woman open up about accomplishments & failures.

A fantastic listen for anyone in the creative arts. Actor Connor Ratliff talks about being fired by Tom Hanks -- with the legend himself.

So many of TSNOTYAW's episodes are inspiring and affirming but this one stuck out to me. Two authors talk about female empowerment, honoring your own deepest desires, and how to incorporate intuition into your life and your writing.
